Artist Trading Cards (ATC)
Students are beginning the year in art by creating Artist Trading Cards. An Artist Trading Card is a small card, usually made out of card stock which contains an original artwork by an artist. ATCs can be made in a series, with a signature and date on the back. ATC’s can contain a special message or thought and can be traded with other artists.

Gallery Walk
Our critical reflection consists of a "gallery walk". Students arrange their trading cards on their tables and begin walking around the room looking at the other artists work. Students are required to talk about the other art. We use the art elements line, color, shape, value, texture, and space as conversation starters.
After students have seen everyone's cards, they may bring their cards to the "trading table". Students can put their cards up for trade if they want to but are not required. If a student puts two cards on the trading table they may take two cards. If they put one card on the table they can take one card.
Artists Habit of the Mind:
Students can UNDERSTAND COMMUNITY by discussing their artwork with other artists
