Fun with Peacocks
Lesson Overview:
1st grade students create a colorful portrait of a peacock. The first day we talk about the peafowl family, different parts of peacocks, and the differences in color between male and female birds. Students identify different shapes and types of lines they see when looking at peacocks and their feathers. For ideation and planning we create a line drawing of a peacock together. Student's practice outlining their rough draft with sharpie. For the final draft students recreate their drawing in pencil and outline with sharpie. After outlining students erase their pencil marks and color with colored pencil. Student's reflect on their work as well as their classmates work with a gallery walk.
